On January 2016, armed men broke into the Malhuer National Wildlife Refuge claiming they will not leave until the government ends it's " tyranny." Ammon Bundy is in charge of this protest. They want the federal government to relinquish control of the wildlife refuge so "people can reclaim their resources." By this statement, they mean ranchers have the right to use the land for their cattle to graze. They also want an easier sentence for Dwight Hammond and his son Steven Hammond for a conviction of arson on federal property in 2012. If these requests are granted, the armed protestors will leave the wildlife refuge.

On January 26, federal authorities arrested Ammon Bundy, his brother Ryan, and five other militants involved in the occupation, following a shootout that killed another militant, LaVoy Finicum. They will face "federal felony charges of conspiracy to impede federal officers from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation or threats." On January 27, Bundy, through his lawyer, urged those remaining at the refuge to stand down and go home. On January 29, Bundy appeared before a judge alongside several other jailed militants. He stood in court and explained the motives of the occupation to the judge, saying that "[his] only goal from the beginning was to protect freedom for the people." However, he and the other militants were denied bail, with the judge saying she would not release them while the occupation continues. Bundy has since repeatedly urged any militants remaining at the refuge to stand down and go home.

Flint Michigan Lead in Water
![Picture](/uploads/5/7/3/5/57353287/594558912.jpg?287)
How it became toxic
Two years ago, Flint wanted to save money and switched their water source from Lake Huron, to the Flint River. It was supposed to be temporary while a new state-run supply line to Lake Huron was ready for connection. After the switch, residents began to complain that it tasted funny, smelled bad, and looked dirty. The river was full of iron; highly corrosive. Nineteen more times than Lake Huron. According to a class-action lawsuit, the state Department of Environmental Quality wasn't treating the Flint River water with an anti-corrosive agent, in violation of federal law. Therefore, the water was eroding the iron water mains, turning water brown. But what residents couldn't see was far worse. About half of the service lines to homes in Flint are made of lead and because the water wasn't properly treated, lead began leaching into the water supply, in addition to the iron. This water has caused ten deaths and have had many people sick.
